
22 Apr Nuclear Waste Partnership Announces Area Scholarship Recipients
Nuclear Waste Partnership LLC (NWP) continued its community commitment to education with the recent award of $15,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in southeastern New Mexico.
“Education is important. It provides students the tools and experiences that will propel them as they pursue their careers. We also want them to realize that there are companies like NWP right here in the area that want them to come back and work for us.” said NWP President and Project Manager Sean Dunagan.
Since 1999, NWP and its predecessor companies have awarded more than $275,000 in scholarships. This year, scholarship recipients are Justine Beeman, Ruth Christensen, Annamarie Florez, Danika Gallagher, Emma Haston, Caleb Macias, Caleb McCarty, Myah Medrano, Olivia Meeks, Ian Ridenour, Rachel Rogers, Eileen Tanori, Jevin Valdez, Brandi Vega,and Jaklynne Vigil.
NWP has also provided funding for the LULAC Scholarship Fund, the Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund, the Class Act Scholarship Fund and the Falcon Fest Scholarship Fund.
The NWP scholarship program focuses on students pursuing a math, science or engineering degree through an accredited technical program.
NWP is the management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad. WIPP, the nation’s first permanent geologic repository for defense transuranic nuclear waste, began disposal operations in 1999.
