Nuclear Waste Partnership Announces 2021 Scholarship Recipients

Nuclear Waste Partnership LLC (NWP) continued its commitment to education with the recent award of $15,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in southeastern New Mexico.

“We are extremely pleased to recognize and reward these students for the time and effort that they have put into their education. We look forward to seeing their contributions to society and wish them well as they take this next step towards their careers” said NWP President and Project Manager Sean Dunagan.

Since 1999, NWP and its predecessor companies have awarded more than $290,000 in scholarships to students from Carlsbad, Loving and Hobbs.

This year, scholarship recipients are Jordan Ballard, Caedon Carrasco, Makenzie Chester, Christian Diaz, Andres Duarte, Ryan Gomez, Emily Hervol, Alyssa Jasso, Hannah Kim, Harmony Lopez, Briette Mendoza, Hayley Navarrette, Maddalen Reid, Sydney St. John and Lysette Valenzuela.

The NWP scholarship program focuses on students pursuing a math, science or engineering degree through an accredited technical program.

NWP is the managing and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad. WIPP, the nation’s only permanent geologic repository for defense related transuranic nuclear waste, began disposal operations in 1999.
